Nouns Helps Grow the World’s Largest Crypto Pizza Party

Nouns helps expand PizzaDAO’s Global Pizza Party to hundreds of cities across the globe.

The Details

On May 22, 2010, two pizzas were famously purchased for 10,000 Bitcoin — one of the first documented real-world crypto transactions.

Each year since 2021, PizzaDAO has celebrated Bitcoin Pizza Day by throwing decentralized pizza parties around the globe, inviting people to grab a slice and learn about crypto culture.

In 2021, PizzaDAO raised funds to support over 300 independent pizzerias, giving away thousands of free slices worldwide. 

In 2022, the event evolved: instead of just giving away slices, PizzaDAO community members began hosting local gatherings, inviting friends outside of crypto to join, eat, and learn how the blockchain made it all possible — funding around 50 community-driven parties worldwide.

By 2023, PizzaDAO was ready to scale. On May 2nd 2023 Snax, founder of PizzaDAO, put up a proposal for Nouns to help sponsor the Global Pizza Party, requesting Nouns DAO sponsorship to expand the celebration to even more cities.

The proposal passed. With Nouns’ support, PizzaDAO grew the 2023 Global Pizza Party to over 112 events across the world — onboarding thousands, sparking new conversations, and proving that a simple slice could become a portal into web3.

PizzaDAO’s presence expanded beyond May 22nd, with Nounish pizza parties popping up at flagship events like ETHDenver and Art Basel Miami — creating welcoming, low-barrier spaces for web3 newcomers and veterans alike. 

In 2024, PizzaDAO returned with “Let’s Throw a Bigger Global Pizza Party!”, asking Nouns to help fund an even more ambitious plan: 216 parties across more than 65 countries.

Seeing the momentum, Nouns passed the proposal — and the proliferation continued.

Through these grants, Nouns helped PizzaDAO turn a decentralized idea into a global phenomenon — proving how memes, food, and community-first funding can build cultural bridges across the world.

Even as future funding remains uncertain, PizzaDAO shows no signs of slowing down. Wherever there’s pizza, there’s potential for public goods.
