Nouns Fest: Celebrating & Funding Animators
Nouns funds a small grants program that grows into a major animation festival, Nouns Fest.
Details
The lights of the United Theatre in downtown Los Angeles came up on something new: an independent animation festival funded entirely on-chain. Over 600 creators, collectors, and fans filled the theater for Nouns Fest, a celebration of imagination, open creativity, and Nouns.
But, that wasn’t the start of their adventure…
Nouns Fest Season 1
The first season of Nouns Stories: Short Shorts (Proposals 180 and 259) commissioned ten 15-second animated comedies for 6 ETH each. Ten were selected through open-call funding rounds, while the other seven were hand-picked and Noun-pilled by the team. Every short followed three simple rules: it had to be funny, it had to be 15 seconds long, and it had to feature at least one Noun. And with over 300 submissions, season one of Nouns Fest was shaping up to be a hit.

Their goal? Release content through a Perpetual Original Content Machine that culminates in a robust animation and film ecosystem plus yearly Nouns Film Festival.
Gaining attention across the animation world, Proposal #259 – Nouns Stories Bonus Pack expanded the vision with seven new shorts and a live-streamed festival in Los Angeles to showcase them.

With a total of 17 artists producing Animations across Season 1, Nouns Fest was a hit! Animators and fans flew in from across the world to gather and celebrate an amazing program bringing dozens of artists onchain and creating Nouns. Some notable animations and moments from Nouns Fest Season 1:

Nouns Fest Season 2
Season 2 was kicked off through Proposal #397 – Nouns Stories + Stoopid Buddy = Shorts Galore.
It aimed to be bigger, better and more unhinged than Season 1. This time the team tapped in 50 artists to create 2-3 minute shorts, 15-30 second ‘short shorts, as well as 3 original shorts by the Stoopid Buddy team themselves. This opened up the doors for a bigger Nouns Fest venue, a larger audience, and more eyes on Nouns.
Coinciding with Nouns Town LA, another event that brought in hundreds of Nouns contributors and fans, Nouns fest was more like a movie premier.

Held at the iconic United Theater in Downtown L.A., the event brought together over 600 people, and featured 50 original animated shorts funded by more than $1 million in grants from Nouns.

From claymation and puppetry to bold mixed-media experiments, Nouns Fest was a true showcase of the playful spirit of Nouns. Check out the 2024 recap, and some of the videos below. Or, check out a full playlist of the Nouns Fest 2024 animations.
