Nounish: Brand Building for Nouns

Nouns funded a world-class media production house to rebrand and become a voice for Nouns.

Details

What happens when a professional production studio stumbles into the weird and wonderful world of Nouns? In the case of Nounish, it sparked a creative evolution that would help shape how people see, understand, and fall in love with Nouns.

Over the course of four seasons, Nounish has gone from explainer videos to viral creative content, building a massive audience of artists and designers along the way. Their content has become a gateway to Nouns—and a case study in what happens when you fund the right team and let them iterate in public.

Becoming Nounish

Before they were Nounish, they were Pixel—a Melbourne-based commercial production team known for polished, narrative-driven campaigns for big brands and agencies.

Then they discovered Nouns: a playful, open-source project with daily auctions, a community full of builders, and of course; CC0 art they could build on top of. It was weird. It was creative. It was something they had to be part of.

So they rebranded. And started telling Nounish stories.

Their first funded videos helped expose the project to the world. But over time, they evolved into something more: a media studio with its own voice, its own audience, and a unique ability to make Nouns feel human.

Season 0 – The Pilot

Proposed Apr 22, 2022 via Prop. 64

Nounish kicked things off with four foundational videos funded by the DAO. Think of it as their proof of concept: explainers, project highlights, and short stories showing what a Nouns media studio could look like.

Season 1 – Scaling Up

Proposed Sep 19, 2022 via Prop. 143

Backed by a major grant, Season 1 focused on building out a full content pipeline.

The result: 92 minutes of high-quality content, including long-form explainers, dozens of shorts, and commissioned videos for other Nouns projects. They also dropped 80+ Nounish GIFs—viewed over 80 million times on Giphy.

Performance:

  • Views: 3 million views across all @nounish channels
  • Followers: 2.8X followers from 2,917 to 8,184
  • Proliferated Views: 750K views in 50+ instances of proliferation by others

Season 2 – Finding A Broader Audience

Proposed May 9, 2023 via Prop 289

When feedback came in that Nounish should explore their own product-market fit, the team embraced it. They shifted away from strictly covering DAO proposals and started piloting original content aimed at specific audiences.

First, piloting content directed at the Nouns community:

Next, piloting ideas directed at the Esports community, like:

And finally, piloting ideas directed at fans:

“Fans” is a broad definition for people who could fall in love with Nouns. Here, they attempted to create content that generally would work well on social media, and that it could be used as a gateway to Nouns. They tested original content, trying to embody what they consider to be nounish:

That’s when they struck gold with Three Artists—a short-form series profiling creative people around the world.

The format hit a nerve: 2 million+ views, 70K+ new followers, and a clearly defined audience of artists, illustrators, and creative professionals.

For the first time, Nounish wasn’t just making Nouns content. They were building a brand of their own.

Season 3 – Growth Mode

Proposed Oct 17, 2023 via Prop 413

With momentum building, Season 3 was all about doubling down on what worked.

More episodes of Three Artists

New pilots like Drawn Together

And big growth across TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.

They grew from 80K to 280K followers, brought in over 25 million organic views, and caught the attention of brands like Wacom and Adobe—now followers themselves, and some successfully noun-pilled.

They also began testing long-form versions of their shows, and exploring ways to activate their audience—bringing creatives deeper into the Nouns world.

Season 4(ever) – Sustainability Through What Works

Proposed Aug 1, 2024 via Prop 594

The latest proposal marks a new chapter. With an audience of over 550,000 (and climbing), Nounish is now focused on building a self-sustaining media brand rooted in Nounish values.

They’re continuing Three Artists, launching new artist-driven formats, and starting to bridge their audience directly into Nouns. Safe to say, they’re building their own version of Nouns and doing a great job of it.
